Oh my, Fernando Pessoa wrote what I could say the most beautiful book in the world. If I should only have one book, it would be this one, 'The Book of Disquiet'. Lately, I've been reading this book made of fragments, this time in french (wish I could read it in all languages of the world) and it's just like the first time. A fragment before going to sleep, a little one first thing in the morning; like a prescription :)I lack of words in english to tell you how much I love this poet, this writer. He has been with me all my life just like Florbela Espanca. They are my family.
Some of his quotes:
"As we wash our body so we should wash destiny, change life as we change clothes."
"In order to understand, I destroyed myself."
"I never meant to be but a dreamer."
"I always live in the present. The future I can't know. The past I no longer have."
"We never love someone. We just love the idea we have of someone. It's a concept of ours - summing up, ourselves - that we love."
"To write is to forget. Literature is the pleasantest way of ignoring life."
"We adore perfection because we can't have it; it would disgust us if we had it. Perfect is inhuman, because human is imperfect."
This one is my favorite, I quote this one all the time:
"I am nothing
I shall never be anything
I cannot wish to be anything
Aside from that, I hold within me all the dreams of the world."
